Eligibility and Submission Guidelines
Nick Novak Fellowship

Eligibility
* Please note that only current Open Studio Artist Members are eligible to be considered for the Nick Novak Fellowship. Eligible artists should contact Open Studio's Director for more information.

Benefits
The fellowship recipient will receive the following:
* Rent free access to the studio facilities for a period of one year starting in September 2010. There will be a minimum stay of 8 months.
* Materials assistance up to a maximum of $1,000
* Assistance for professional workshops up to a maximum of $500
* Tuition free access to workshops and one eight-week class offered by Open Studio. (Subject to courses having met minimum enrollment and having not exceeded the maximum).
* Exhibition with an artist fee in accordance with the CARFAC schedule.
* Open Studio is equipped for artists working with photographic, digital and other hybrid art forms within print media.

Obligations
The fellowship recipient will be required to:
* Provide the Studio with one proof from every edition printed during the fellowship period. These proofs become part of the Open Studio Archives.
* Provide the Studio with two fundraising proofs.
* Maintain a consistent art production during the tenure of the fellowship.
* The recipient will be required to pay the applicable materials or supply fees.
* Present an artist talk at the opening reception of their exhibition.

Required:

• 8-10 images – please follow guidelines below.
  
• A corresponding image list indicating size, medium, title and date for all images.
  
• Artist statement and outline of artistic direction during residency - maximum 250 words, combined total.
  
• A curriculum vitae with current address, telephone number and email address.
  
• All text documents (statement, CV, image list) must be submitted with the application as printed documents and saved on your disc as PDFs.
• Please do not send any additional materials beyond what is requested here; additional materials such as catalogues and press clippings will not be seen by the jury.
  

Important: If digital support material submitted with your application does not follow the guidelines below, your application may be considered incomplete and may be withdrawn from the competition.

Digital images must be submitted on a CD or DVD. Image files must be:

• MAC-compatible
• in .jpg or .pdf file format
• a maximum of 1 MB file size each
• a maximum resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels, and
• RGB or greyscale colour mode files only (no CMYK).

File names must be in the following format:
01initialsyeartitle.jpg (image number, applicant’s initials, year of the work, title of the work). Image numbers must correspond to the ones on your image list.

Notification:
Submissions will be juried* and notification sent out approximately eight weeks from the deadline. Submissions not selected will be returned in the self-addressed, stamped envelopes provided. If you have not provided a self-addressed stamped envelope, your submission will not be returned. All applicants will be notified of the outcome of the competition. No telephone or email inquiries, please.

The Fellowship Selection Committee is comprised of 3 jurors as follows:

• A member of Open Studio's Programming Committee
• An Open Studio artist (member or renter)
• An arts educator who has not been cited as a reference in any of the applications under consideration.
  *Open Studio's Director attends this meeting but does not vote.

Annual Deadline for Submissions: Applications must be received by Open Studio by 5:00 pm on May 1. Where May 1 falls on a weekend, the deadline will be the following Monday.
