Selected Artwork from the Open Studio Print Sales Gallery

January 16, 2015 – February 21, 2015

The Open Studio Print Sales Gallery represents original fine art prints by over 150 artists, offering collectible works by contemporary Canadian artists. This group exhibition will feature a selection of work by artists featured in our past off-site exhibitions in 2014 including Perspectives on Nature at the Capital One North York Office, and Art Toronto 2014. Featuring artworks by Mark Bovey, Victoria Cowan, Suzanne Nacha, Jae Hyang Lee, Lorna Livey, Penelope Stewart, and various other artists from the Open Studio Print Sales Gallery.

The artists work in a variety of printmaking mediums including collagraph, etching, screenprinting, and lithography, printing on paper and other print supports such as metal. The print-based works focus on nature and the landscape in traditional to contemporary concepts. For example in Stewart’s Compacts, a suite of small sculptural handheld steel prints hinged at the center reveal acid-etched drawings, text, and maps, that trigger memory and explore notions of utopia, paradise and hope.

Nacha’s Empire Hazard screenprint on paper has a narrative that looks at the idea of passage as both a means of access and a turning point or crossroads. Her recent work offers up a simplified visual logic that acts as a mirror to the human condition. Dark humour prevails as anthropomorphic forms evolve from underground tunnels, caves and rail systems, as they play at the boundary between visual sign and physical trigger.
