Dana Holst
Dancing Girls is a look into the plight of the private-fantasy-world of young girls, ballerina-world, where dressing in silky tutus, leads to dreams of beauty and perfection.A world which collides heavily with reality, as each girl is conditioned to society's demands.

In the past Holst's work has dealt with issues of femininity and sexual stereotypes, focusing on the training of little girls to behave, dress and act properly. Her paintings and prints depicted pensive little girls in pretty dresses who brandished household items such as mops and brooms while emulating their mommies. At first glance her girls appear blissful and happy, but upon closer inspection this veneer pales to reveal inner anger and fire as can be found in her current grouping of prints on pretty pink paper titled Dancing Girls.
