International Visiting Artist Zhiyuan Cong
Printmaking Demonstration at Open Studio

November 1, 2008

Open Studio was pleased to welcome artist Zhiyuan Cong from October 30 – November 1, 2008 to present an artist talk and printmaking demonstration. Zhiyuan Cong is a Professor and Head of the Printmaking Program at William Patterson University in Wayne, New Jersey. Cong's work is steeped in both traditional Chinese and contemporary Western traditions, which he melds together in his prints and paintings. The demonstration of Blue Film Spit-Bite Etching with Chinese Brush provided an opportunity to view a combination of artistic creation and printmaking techniques, modern and traditional printmaking media, and a melding of Eastern and Western art forms. The process demonstrated is similar to the production process and results found in Chinese ink paintings. Open Studio gratefully acknowledges the support of the Canada Council for the Arts for funding this initiative. For upcoming demonstrations and artist talks, please see our Upcoming Events page.
